HOW TO ARRANGE YOUR LOUNGE WHEN YOU HAVE A SECTIONAL SOFA

THE BEST WAYS TO ARRANGE YOUR LIVING ROOM WITH A SECTIONAL SOFA

While sectional sofas are a great seating option for those that have larger living rooms or larger families, the downside to them is that they can often be quite hard to style in a space, especially if your living room is an odd shape or size. It is important that the desired purpose of your living room is achieved to ensure that the space is functional and well used. The right sofa arrangement in a living room can have a big impact on the atmosphere and mood in the room.

TOP 5 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN ARRANGING YOUR SECTIONAL SOFA

1 KNOW YOUR FOCAL POINT

When you are in your living room, pay close attention to where your eyes are drawn, this will tell you what the focal point in your room is, whether it is the television, fireplace, feature wall or view outside. These focal points in combination with what the proposed purpose of the room is will largely impact what furniture is in the room and where you decide to place it. If your living rooms focal point is the television and the purpose of the room is for movie nights and entertaining, then placing your sectional sofa facing the TV is the best option. The same applies if your focal point is the fireplace or view outside and not the television and the purpose is not to watch TV then you may choose to face your sectional sofas away from the television and towards the focal point.

2 MEASURE THE ROOM

When it comes to any kind of furniture it is imperative that you consider the size of the room. If your living room is large and open plan then you will be able to accommodate a much larger lounge suite than a smaller living room would be able to. First measure how big the room is and then compare it to the size of the sectional sofa. You need at least one metre of walking space all around the sofa to ensure that the room does not feel overcrowded.

3 CONSIDER DIFFERENT MATERIAL TYPES

Many people just assume that when choosing between material types for their sectional sofa it is just between leather and fabric. However, what many people are not aware of, is that there are many different fabric types and leather types that are have their own positives and negatives. When it comes to choosing a material type you will need to take your lifestyle, as well as the colour and aesthetic of the room into consideration. If you have young children or pets, we recommend that you steer clear of white and other light colours as they will show stains and marks more.

4 ENSURE THAT THERE IS A GOOD FLOW THROUGH THE ROOM

As much as function is important, the appearance and flow of the room is very important too. The sectional couch needs to be arranged in a certain way to ensure that there is sufficient floor space to comfortably move and walk around without being obstructed by the couch. It is vital that visually, the room flows nicely and that when you enter the room you can see all aspects of the space properly and are not blocked by furniture.

5 AVOID THE WALLS

While placing sofasagainst walls is extremely common in most homes, we recommend that you avoid the walls. Try placing your sectional sofa off of the wall in the middle of the living room to create a cosy central gathering point. If you place your sectional sofa against a wall, try to place it facing the room so that while it may be against a wall or in the corner it still appears open and inviting.
