WHEN SHOULD YOU GET A SECTIONAL SOFA VS A SOFA SUITE

HOW TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF SOFA YOU SHOULD GET FOR YOUR LIVING ROOM

When it comes to choosing between what sofa configuration you want in your living room, you may find yourself stuck choosing between a lounge suite and a sectional sofa. It can often be overwhelming when you have to choose between the two different configuration styles, and it often comes down to personal preference, as well as room size and shape. We have created the ultimate guide to help you determine which kind of seating arrangement will work best for both your lounge and lifestyle.

SECTIONAL SOFAS

Sectional sofas are the perfect space saver as they can comfortably fit into the corner of a room, allowing you to have more open walking space. The great thing about sectional sofas, is that there are numerous different configuration options available that you can mix and match to accommodate your lifestyle and living room shape and size. Sectional sofas are great for making the most of the space in your lounge, whether your living room is big or small.

Sectional sofas look great in open floor plan living rooms as they function as visual barriers between functional spaces, for example having a sectional sofa away from a wall or corner can create a designated living room in an open plan lounge that appears separate from your kitchen and dining room.

TYPES OF SECTIONAL SOFAS

CHAISE SECTIONALS

The chaise sectional is one of the most common sectional sofa shapes due to its long chaise cushion on either the left or right side that is perfect for lounging on. Chaise sectionals work great in both smaller apartments and bigger homes as they can be placed in the corner of a room and still provides a generous amount of seating space.

L-SHAPED SECTIONALS

The L-shaped sectional usually has more seating on one side or the other, for example three seats on the one side and four on the other with a middle piece connecting them. L-shaped corner couches have been around for many years due to their versatility and practicality. L-sectional sofas provide enough seating space while still not overcrowding the room, they also are extremely inviting and functional.

U-SHAPED SECTIONALS

U-shaped sectional sofas are becoming increasingly more popular in today’s home styling and furnishing trends. U-shaped sectional couches are ideal for larger families and larger living rooms as they are on the larger side. These sectional sofas usually have a centre sofa that looks like a two-seater or three-seater, and then has a corner piece on each end with additional seats on either side of that.

SOFA SUITES

Sofa suites are very different to sectional sofas in the sense that the configuration shape and size cannot be customised. However, while a sectional couch is more functional and versatile that a sofa it does generally take up more space in the room. If your living room is on the smaller side, you will benefit more from a sofa than a sectional as sectionals can accommodate more people the space can get easily overcrowded thus making your lounge look and feel even smaller.

If you lean more towards classic, traditional couches but need more seating space, you could acquire a whole lounge suite or purchase two two-seaters and have them facing each other with occasional chairs to complete the conversational space.
