Decorating a small bedroom can be a challenging task – you want to have a room that not only offers comfort after a long day but also a space that is versatile. There are various ways to design a small bedroom that will allow you to create a cosy, stylish and spacious (feeling) room and still home all the things you want in your bedroom.
Space saving requires creative solutions – storage boxes, storage drawers underneath your bed, a bookcase that can double as a nightstand or storage space, are all little creative ways you can maximise the space within your room.
Multifunctional furniture is the perfect option when you have limited space. A nightstand can also be a desk, your bed can also be a sofa and a bed can also be a wardrobe/storage space.
If your bedroom has high ceilings, use this to your advantage - Instead of putting a big closed wardrobe in this small bedroom, go up in height with your wardrobe, by painting the cupboard in the same colour as the walls you make it blend in and thereby giving the illusion of having more space.
Bedroom layout is an important factor to take into consideration when you are designing your room. Maximise the space by adding smaller pieces of furniture instead of large pieces – this enhances the space you have and gives an illusion of a larger room. Strategically place pieces that will be multifunctional and comfortable.
Placing your bed near the window of the room will leave you with more space for all the other furniture you want in the room without your bed being in the way.
If you are using the bedroom as an office, consider hanging a curtain next to your bed, this will allow you to “separate” the bedroom from the office area.
Light colour tones make a room look larger – that doesn’t mean you have to have a white bedroom. Use pastel colours instead of white to add a little character to the room.
Wall mounted furniture is also an option is you want to create an illusion of a bigger room. Mounting pieces creates a delicate look and allows you to see the floor which is an important visual solution for making a room feel bigger.
